Configuration
Overview
The TrafficVisionTMC software must have access to one or more cameras for processing.
The term Camera actually refers to a digital input from a traffic-monitoring camera.
This video input may be live or previously recorded:
-
A live camera, connected over a network or directly attached to the system (some TMC Remote models only), provides a real-time video stream.
-
A recorded camera is a digital video file for playback. Digital video file formats supported by the TMC include MPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, M-JPEG and H.264.
Camera Configuration is the process of:
-
Connecting a camera and its video input to the TMC system
-
Calibrating the video input with visual overlays that define distance, scale and boundaries for traffic and incident monitoring
-
Activating data collection by the camera
Required Information
To add and configure a camera, you enter profile information unique to that camera. You should be able to get this information from the TMC Web Application (or TMC system) administrator. Here is a list of the kind of information you will need:
Task | Subject | Required Information |
---|---|---|
Adding a Camera | Input method | Specify whether a camera provides live video feed via network connection or is recorded to a digital file. You need the network address for each networked camera. You need the file name for a recorded file, and the TMC system owner or administrator must make the file available. |
Adding a TMC Turnkey Appliance or Virtual Machine | TMC system network address | When adding one or more TMC systems (to view more cameras in one Web Application), you need the network address for each system. |
Administrator user name and password | You must have an admin account type to add a TMC system to the Web Application. Your user name and password are required to verify this. | |
Calibrating a Camera | Lane width | A known distance according to local roadway standards. |
Known length | A known distance that you can manually plot on the camera view. | |
You can independently measure exact length in the camera view. Example: Set up two traffic cones in a camera’s view separated by a known distance.
